In the world of technology, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget the people who make everything we do possible. Today, July 26th, we are celebrating the 20th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day.
Twenty years ago, Ted Kekatos founded System Administrator Appreciation Day (SysAdminDay) to be celebrated every year on the last Friday in July. In fact, SysAdminDay was founded in July of 1999 but the first year celebrated was July 2000. As a System Administrator (SysAdmin) himself, still in the early days of businesses adopting the Internet, Kekatos saw a need for a day where all companies could show appreciation for their SysAdmins. Afterall, especially now, most companies could not function without these individuals.
SysAdmins keep our IT infrastructure functioning, for both our own businesses and also for our customers who use our services. Simply, without them, society would collapse (not really, but imagine if IT infrastructures went down, meaning no Internet – our culture would have a meltdown).
Therefore, we at Bigleaf Networks would like to send a special message to all System Administrators out there. You all deserve to be appreciated 365 days a year for working long hours and weekends while the rest of us benefit off your hard work. Make sure that you thank your SysAdmin team today and celebrate with cake, pizza, and maybe a little karaoke. Happy SysAdminDay!
